Youth Club Closures
Good afternoon all, I bring to you news of youth clubs closing accross Torfaen.
As of September there will be about five Less youth clubs than what there is now within Torfaen.
The Youth Service are closing these well established and long-running youth clubs to save money.
I think that it is detrimental to the young people and the community. Many of the community members attended their local youth clubs when they were 11-16 years old, and now are seeing them closing. Do you know what the youth service wants to put in their place?
No? Well I'll tell you then. The youth service wants to put detached youth work teams in place, who will be on the streets 'come rain or shine'. This is good if young people are out on the streets when it is dry, but they are not going to want to be out on the streets where it is wet and cold when raining, they want to be in a building in the dry.
So what I say is give the youth service a bigger budget to keep these youth clubs open, to be able to have a positive impact on more children and young people over the coming years.
Cheers for reading my rant.
