The Romani Cultural & Arts Company City Showcase exhibition - ‘Pots n Pans: A Cardiff Gypsy and Traveller Way of Life’
Do you know why Gypsies are called Gypsies? What a ‘Jack’ is? And what Gypsy Bacon is?
The Cardiff Story Museum will explore all these things in an exciting new City Showcase exhibition by The Romani Cultural and Arts Company working in partnership with Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Services (EMTAS).
This new exhibition will explore Gypsy and Traveller origins, life in Cardiff, cooking traditions and food. With photographs and quotes reflecting the Gypsy and Traveller way of life, we hear what it was like cooking rabbit and hare stew, preparing hedge hogs for the camp fire, growing up on the Shirenewton Site and why beautifully decorated china has always taken pride of place in wagons and the modern day trailers.
From the 16 – 30th June, The Cardiff Story will also feature another exhibition in it’s first floor temporary gallery space by International Romany Artist Delaine Le Bas.
Both exhibitions are celebrating this year’s Gypsy, Romany, Traveller History month in June. The Romani Cultural and Arts Company are holding a number of exciting events. On the 25th June, there is a free event at St David’s Hall called ‘Think you know what a Gypsy, Roma and Traveller are?’ Films, live performances, art and exhibitions will showcase the cultural diversity of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community in Wales.
